6 Reasons You’ll Want To Escape To Maui

Maui has quickly become one of my favorite destinations, not only for a couples getaway but also with the family.  Here are 6 reasons why I think Maui just could be my favorite Hawaiian island.

You Never Have To Leave The Resort (although you should)

You will truly feel like you have escaped to your own tropical paradise at many of the beautiful resorts on the island of Maui.  The effort that goes into maintaining the manicured and detailed gardens is unrivaled.  Whether you’re heading into the community of Wailea on the Southside of the island or heading to Ka’anapali on the West coast, you’ll feel transported from the moment you drive onto many of the resort grounds.

The Road To Hana

The experience of driving on a two-lane super curvy road along the very edge of a mountain is one you won’t forget.  It’s not one for the faint of heart, but the rewards of beautiful waterfalls and beaches along the way make it worth it.  Plus, you can find some of the best food trucks with local eats and treats along the way.

I will say that if you or a family member is prone to getting carsick, you might skip this adventure or just plan to do a very short part of the drive.

Haleakala Crater

Towering over the island of Maui and visible from just about any point, Haleakalā Crater covers more than 75% of the island. The views are incredible and it’s a super easy drive from most areas of the island.

There’s a very popular excursion in which you can ride a bicycle from the top down the mountain at sunrise.  There are strict age requirements, though, but if you are traveling with just teens and adults, check it out.

Happy Hour at Four Seasons Maui

Whether you are staying there or not, I highly recommend all of my clients stop in for a happy hour in the Lounge at Four Seasons Maui.  They have hula dancers and live music in the evenings along with a gorgeous view of the sunset.

Plus, the delicious hors d’oeuvres you can order there have actually served as dinner for us a couple times. If you’re staying anywhere in Wailea, it’s a beautiful walk along the paved sidewalk at the edge of the beach.

The Quintessential Hawaiian Town, Lahaina

You can’t visit Maui without spending an afternoon or evening in Lahaina.  The small town charm of Lahaina would be enough on its own, but add the fact that you’re across the street from the beach and it just can’t get any better.  Head here to get your local souvenirs from the many cute shops and of course grab a meal (or two) there.  Some favorite restaurants are Leilani’s on the Beach and Fleetwood’s on Front Street.

And, don’t forget to get a shave ice from Ulululani’s as that’s where you will arguably find the BEST shave ice on the island.

So Many Fun Excursions

If you’re heading to Maui, you might be tempted to just lay on the beach or by the pool all day.  These views and the service are that good, so that makes sense.

However, don’t do that!  Make sure you get out and explore on your own (like to Haleakala or to the Road to Hana) and book a couple of guided excursions too.  Some of my favorites are the Snorkeling at Molokini and the Whale Watching cruise (offered in the winter months).

If you’re wanting to head to Maui and don’t know where to start, reach out!  I’ve been several times myself and send clients there multiple times a year.  I can help you not only find the perfect resort(s) for you but also help you find the best time of year to book.
